Obituary of Lowell Pittenger
Lowell "Max" Pittenger of Crawfordsville passed away, Friday, July 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was 82.
Born July 20, 1935 in Boone County, he was the son of the late Paul Cunningham and Zena "Maxine" (Joseph) Pittenger.
He attended Darlington schools. He served in the Army for 2 years. On December 25, 1961, while home on leave from the Army, he married Joyce (Hultz) Pittenger in the home of her parents. They celebrated 55 years together.
He was a member of the American Legion 72. He was also a member of Darlington Christian Church.
He retired on June 5, 1998 from Midstates Steel & Wire after 39 years. He worked in the Nail Mill, Inland & the Maintenance Department as a welder and a carpenter. After retirement he worked for the Crawfordsville Parks and Recreation Department as a groundskeeper and maintenance for three years before fully retiring.
He enjoyed being outdoors, working in his garage/work shop, nurturing his many flower and vegetable gardens, Euchre, IU Basketball, working with race horses with his uncle, camping, coon hunting "with the guys" and wiener roasts with family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Eddie Pittenger, Barbara Neely and Virginia VanHook and daughter Susan Marcucci.
He is survived by daughters Lisa (Phil) Bray, Paula (Steve) Morse, Amy (Rich) Mesaros, Pamela (Jeremy) Weliever and Teresa (Brian) Gauthier and their family. Grandchildren: Kiley Pedro (Mike) Watts, Colton Pedro, Nolan, Zach and Drew Morse, Lauren, Paige and Emily Mesaros, Ethan McCormick, Zoey McCormick (Shane) Zobrist and Jake McCormich and Kennedy Weliever. Great Granddaughter: Briar Watts, Sister in law, Joyce Hultz, several nieces and a nephew and Longtime family friend, Ed Hauser.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 pm Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery, New Market. Friends may call at Powers Priebe Funeral Home on Wednesday from noon until 2:00 pm. Online condolences may be sent to www.powerspriebefh.com.
